USA Triathlon As days become shorter, the weather gets colder, bikes become one with trainers, relationships with treadmills are rekindled, and suddenly it is not quite so appealing to jump in the pool and knock out those laps. As dedicated as triathletes are, even the winter days can deter many from training and competing. And USAT will stop at nothing to foster that competitive edge year-round. This is why the National Challenge Competition is back with a vengeance for the third year and will kick off on December 1.

Triathlon Swim Training: Open Water Turn Buoys

Why are turn buoys so important in open water triathlon swimming? After all, they are few and far between (there are usually only 2 turns in an entire race). The logic would suggest that they are inconsequential, which couldn't be further from the truth. It is not the time to go around a turn buoy that makes them so important. Instead, they are critical because they create an "accordion effect" which can split a whole race apart and separate the winners from the contenders.

November 2, 2008 -- Word got out between the first annual Escape to Bermuda Triathlon and the second. In 2007, scarcely 30 athletes participated. This year nearly five times that number signed up for the November 2 Olympic-distance race. Many more took part in the Bermuda Shorts Triathlon and a kids triathlon held the previous day.
