2009 Hy-Vee Triathlon on NBC Sunday July 5th 2 PM Central

hyveetriathlon.com

The biggest prize purse in triathlon history was up for grabs this past weekend during the Hy-Vee ITU Elite Cup Triathlon, and elite triathletes from around the world gave it all they had to earn their biggest payday ever. Simon Whitfield of Canada claimed first place honors after sprinting to the finish and barely edging out two other contenders. Emma Moffatt of Australia had to battle through the scorching sun and hot temperatures to earn her first place title. Both Whitfield and Moffatt walked away with $200,000.

Quercetin linked to increased fitness and endurance

thestate.com

Everybody knows an apple a day keeps the doctor away.

A new USC study reveals a hundred apples a day might win the race.

Of course, that’s a gross oversimplification, and eating 100 apples daily would cause other problems. But the study is a major addition to the growing medical literature on the benefits of quercetin — a substance found in the skins of fruits and vegetables, including apples.

10 Ways Triathletes can be Green

triathlon.competitor.com

Recently I was wandering around a recent triathlon and I couldn’t help but overhear several athletes commenting on the poor quality of the water they were about to swim in. Then I noticed several trashcans overflowing with an assortment of plastic bottles, Styrofoam cups and cardboard boxes, all which had been used during the race. Finally, the parking lot was filled to capacity with cars.

Chrissie Wellington IM Kansas 70.3 Race Report

As a kid I grew up singing (off key) ‘Somewhere over the rainbow’, ‘We’re off to see the Wizard’ and most notably, ‘If only I had a Brain’ – in fact I recall one year when I was actually forced by my mother to dress up as a scarecrow for the local carnival. Needless to say i didn’t need much in the way of a costume. My hair was already enough to scare off any birds (or prospective boyfriends). Anyway, when I was invited to race the Kansas 70.3 I jumped at the chance to visit the state of the fairytale, and see whether there really is ‘no place like home’.

Post-Race Recovery before Hammering Forward

I remind my athletes all the time to allow their bodies to recovery after a race in order to absorb the fitness gained and avoid injuries. Often, triathletes finish and then, riding a post-race high (or perhaps even post-race blues), they want to get right back to work. Here's something from Mark Allen on the subject...
