The 70.3 series gets its name from the total distance of the race which is exactly half of the full Iron distance of 140.6 miles.
The 1.2 mile Swim, 56 mile Bike, and 13.1 mile Run series culminates in November at the World Championships in Clearwater, FL. The reigning 2009 World Champions are Michael Raelert from Germany and Julie Dibens from the United Kingdom.
